New era for SUPERYACHT BASE AUSTRALIA

Superyacht Base Australia (SYBA) has announced marine industry leader David McQueen as the new Chairman for the organisation.

David brings over 22 years of experience in the Australian marine industry with him, complete with the passion and drive to position SYBA and its 300 plus members in the best possible light for the future.

“During times like the present, there are always opportunities, and this is where we as a group need to focus to ensure our members come out on the right side of the times that lie ahead of us,” David said. “These are unprecedented times in our industry, and I am dedicated to positioning and representing SYBA and its 300 plus members throughout the world.”

As Managing Director of Azzura Marine and an important member of the SYBA Board for the past six years, David’s fellow board members unanimously elected him as Chairman. The board is extremely confident with David’s ability to steer SYBA in the right direction.

David has large shoes to fill, taking over from past Chairman and well known marine industry leader, Barry Jenkins. For the last 10 years, Barry was instrumental in building the SYBA network, promoting the unique and specialised skills of the 300 SYBA members at multiple marine industry forums.

Barry stands down as Chairman after 10 very successful years and he is commended by all board members for his superb chairmanship. Barry remains a key board member of SYBA along with many other important marine industry figures. He is very excited about the future of SYBA and what David and the board will bring to the industry.

The SYBA Board and its new Chairman are committed to working together to ensure consistent growth and development of all facets of the Australian superyacht industry, which will result in consistent and significant benefits to our members, associated industries and ultimately all Australians.

At the same time the CEO Lance Cushion has resigned after 10 years working alongside Barry Jenkins and now plans to take a well deserved sabbatical. He is being replaced by Cairns Superyacht Group Manager Narelle Phipps who has been involved at Cairns since November 2008. She, along with the new Chairman, brings a vibrant new energy to the Group and all Directors are looking forward to the positive times ahead.
